A few weeks ago, I saw a quote that resinated with me. –

“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.”

(I immediately pinned it & added it to my website…haha!)

It brought me back to my “why”. I have been taking photos professionally for about two and a half years now. Prior to this my dad used to tease me about not taking any. I have no idea why I didn’t, maybe I was too busy or caught in the moment at a particular time…it was two and a half years ago that dad passed, and ever since then I have regretted the moments I did not capture. We spent quite a few days together (with mom) in New Zealand & I would hassle him about being such a tourist with his iPad taking photos.

I now treasure the photos – they take me RIGHT back to the moment they were taken. This was a massive tree we were trying to fit into the photo with us (unsuccessfully, I might add), but now I just love it because it reminds me how much fun we were having!

I love being able to capture & share photographs from other people’s days. Knowing how much they will come to treasure that “ticket” back means the world to me.

Last year, I spent the day of my birthday taking photos for my grandparents (dad’s parents). Grandma had been sick for quite some time & I really wanted some photos with them.

Every time I see the above photo I laugh to myself because when I showed Grandpa he told me it was a “terrible photo” because I cut off their heads….it still remains my favourite of them. Almost married 56 years, their love remains an inspiration to me & these photos are my “ticket” to that.

Unfortunately, we lost grandma last week, but I am SO thankful for these photos & the time I made to spend the day with them.

The value of photos for me keeps increasing as time passes. I think I am so fortunate to be able to provide these “tickets” for others & am thankful people entrust this responsibility in me.

Warmly,

Ang
